What could possibly top 2009's halloween costumes?!
Well, in my terribly biased and personal opinion - Nothing.
Oak Leaves by knittaddiction
Golden leaves, colder days, snow capped peaks, dewy mist on the windows, fireplace smoke in the air and time to break out the jackets and knitted hats.
Thanksgiving is just around the corner and before you know it, it's winter,
and then... Christmas day.
This year, October brought new opportunities as well.
We have discussed the possibility of me getting a job. Preferably something part time. I had stated that I would not beg anyone for a crappy job, but if September were not "better" as far as our business was concerned, I would go get a job. Also if it were to be the right timing for me to do that, then the right one would come along. Something that was just enough to help, so we did not have to go through another slow season in the business of steam cleaning.
Side note: (Apparently SPRING cleaning is a religion in this town, and the residents pretty much do just that. Clean only in spring, play in the summer and hibernate (I assume) in the winter.. Because winter is pretty darn slow for us.)
Moving on.
So September came and went. I wasn't happy to see it come, and I was elated to see it go. But I knew that it meant I had to go get a job, and relatively soon. Right when I thought I should buckle under and get a holiday job at JC Penny's or something of that nature, I was asked if I were interested in blogging for my local yarn shop's website.
Of course I said yes; I mean, what a drag it would be to have to talk about how much I love yarn, how cool my local shop is, how nice the people there are, and what kind of fun, new, and exciting things are going to take place there during this knitting season! ;0)
Total bummer I know.. Total knitter's dream to be more precise!
So, of course, I said yes.
I went in to talk with the shop owner, and after just a few minutes, she told me, she wanted me to actually WORK for her in the shop!
You don't know how hard it was for me to contain my joy right then.
I thought I would have to settle with a retail department store job, and here is a job, that I could only DREAM of having, looking for me, AT A YARN SHOP IN MY OWN TOWN.
I mean, REALLY looking for me. She told me that she was racking her brain on who would be best for this, and MY FACE came to HER mind. MINE! That's a compliment. Really.
So needless to say, and to get to the point, I was hired and I start next week.
I am so excited, I just can't even tell you enough!
I also saw a photo on the internet comparing Katie Holmes' recent style to Louise Brooks..
(Not a big fan of her, but hey, her hair looked cute last I saw it..)
SO, it was all downhill from there.. I'm totally going on this direction this season!!!
I think I need to sell off and clean out all the clothes that don't fit, and I do not need.. And invest in some wardrobe staples that can take me in any direction and still support this look.
I am going to be loving this!
This is what started it all:

Have you heard of this law? Chances are, if you are a crafter, you have. Written as a way of protecting our children from lead poisoning, this law requires extensive testing of toys or items that children come into contact with. Before you applaud, you should know that this will shut down most mommy-crafters and artisans.
Unfortunately, this law doesn't take into account handmade items by small-time crafters. If you've ever bought a sock monkey at a craft show or a hand-knit teddy on Etsy - then you know that these are small-producers of handmade toys and are not making a killing on these items. However, these items do help these moms (in many cases) continue to be SAHMs or WAHMs.
This law SHOULD be in effect, but with modifications. These handmade, small producers of craft toys should be held to a different standard than these mega manufacturers of children's toys. Your neighbor who sells 5 sock monkeys a month cannot afford the extremely expensive testing as say Hasbro could afford. This would drive the cost of handmade goods up exponentially and likely cause these Etsy shop owners, basement crafters, and makers of handmade gifts to go out of business altogether.
Join me today as we bloggers, crafters, friends of crafters, and/or admirers of handmade goods engage in a BLOG IN. Get the word out there and help save these crafters' businesses. In this economy, we all need to look out for each other!
Here's a post that is being cut and copied to blogs everywhere today (Many thanks to The Copper Cauldron):
As parents and concerned citizens I’m sure most of us at one time or another have been confronted with the question of lead poisoning. But have you asked yourself what your government is doing to protect your children from lead contained in toys? The answer? They're banning toys, taking books from schools and libraries, hurting low income families, killing entrepreneurial spirit and risking putting the economy in an even greater depression than we've seen in decades. I'd like to introduce you to their solution: the CPSIA.
Do you know about the CPSIA? No? Then I ask you to take a few minutes to find out about it.
The CPSIA stands for Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, a new set of laws that will come into effect on 10 February, 2009 and will impact many, many people in a negative way. Make no mistake, this is very real. View it for yourself. If Forbes, the American Library Association and numerous other media are paying attention, perhaps you should too.
How will these new laws affect you? Well, here are a few examples:
To the Parents of Young Students:
Due to the new law, expect to see the cost of school supplies sky rocket. While those paper clips weren't originally intended for your student to use, they will need to be tested now that your 11-year-old needs them for his school project. This law applies to any and all school supplies (textbooks, pencils, crayons, paper, etc.) being used by children under 12.
To the Avid Reader:
Due to the new law, all children's books will be pulled from library and school shelves, as there is no exemption for them. That’s okay though, there's always television. Our children don’t need to learn the love of reading after all.
Article from the American Library Association http://www.wo.ala.org/districtdispatch/?p=1322
To the Lover of All Things Handmade:
Due to the new law, you will now be given a cotton ball and an instruction manual so you can make it yourself since that blanket you originally had your eye on for $50 will now cost you around $1,000 after it's passed testing. It won't even be the one-of-a-kind blanket you were hoping for. Items are destroyed in the testing process making one-of-a-kind items virtually impossible. So that gorgeous hand-knit hat you bought your child this past winter won’t be available next winter.
To the Environmentalist:
Due to the new law, all items in non-compliance will now be dumped into our already overflowing landfills. Imagine not just products from the small business owners, but the Big Box Stores as well. You can't sell it so you must toss it. Or be potentially sued for selling it. You can't even give them away. If you are caught, it is still a violation.
To the Second-Hand Shopper:
Due to the new law, you will now need to spend $20 for that brand new pair of jeans for your 2-year old, rather than shop at the Goodwill for second hand. Many resale shops are eliminating children's items all together to avoid future lawsuits.
To the Entrepreneur:
Due to this new law, you will be forced to adhere to strict testing of your unique products or discontinue to make and/or sell them. Small businesses will be likely to be unable to afford the cost of testing and be forced to close up shop. Due to the current economic state, you'll have to hope for the best when it comes to finding a new job in Corporate America.
To the Antique Toy Collector:
Due to the new law, you'd better start buying now because it's all going to private collection and will no longer be available to purchase. “Because the new rules apply retroactively, toys and clothes already on the shelf will have to be thrown out if they aren't certified as safe.” http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123189645948879745.html
To the American Economy:
Already struggling under an economy that hasn’t been this weak in decades, the American economy will be hit harder with the inevitable loss of jobs and revenues from suppliers, small businesses and consumers. The required testing is far too costly and restrictive for small businesses or individuals to undertake.
To the Worldwide Economy:
Due to this new law, many foreign manufacturers have already pulled out of the US market. You can imagine the impact of this on their businesses.
If you think this is exaggerating, here is a recent article from Forbes

Took me longer than I really wanted or ever intended but I finally finished and here's the Great news....
Somebody out there in the world of internet could win one of my hats....
There's more giveaways out there that you might be interested in too, so keep looking around afterwards... You never know what you might find!
May I take this chance to tell Tonya Thank You - AGAIN!
This is all very exciting to me, to have someone like my hats enough to want to use them
in something like this leaves me terribly honored. May I also say that there are knitters out there who have inspired me greatly, and without them I would not have progressed into creating my own patterns and such. I am so humbled every time I read a blog or book or new pattern that just looks amazing and I think "Geez, I wish I was that good..."
So thank also you to all the published and well known knitters out there, for being so dang cool that other people want to be like you!
And finally, Thank you to all the custom orders I've had in the past 2 months!
Holy cow I love you people! Do you even know?!
I have been busier than I ever thought I would be, and it has raised my expectations that possibly and hopefully, next holiday season will totally kick my butt!!!
I seriously love my customers.
So Thank You - ALL of You!
Much Love, look me up on Facebook (Knittaddiction .etsy.com) and go win something people!
Now I really hate chickens. They are so gross. They really are. Especially bald ones...
The only good chicken to me at this point in my life, is one that is heavily seasoned and roasted to perfection. After having a lot of chickens for many years, I even had a hard time cooking and even eating chicken for a couple years.
Seriously.
But this is so ridiculous. I just had to laugh.
Needless to say that I won't be wasting my precious knitting for this any time soon.
I am so cruel, but oh well.
Ok, Not THAT kind.
(sorry for the lousy resolution, camera phone)
I love being a business owner that knows other business owners.
We traded. That is so awesome, she's such a nice lady.
We'd had this on lay away and happened to catch her in the store.
She got a great deal being that her end would have cost her more
than our end, but we don't mind a bit. Just happy to have it home
and start learning to play....
And my fingers hurt like heck.

Brandy.
Cuzco was however, raised eyebrows and a slight tilt of the head to the right.
Like a woman eyes a handsome man. Confidently.
My husband may get jealous of the time I'll be spending with Cuzco.
But then again, Cuzco doesn't have everything
my adorable hubby has.
